Awaiting with bated breath- Five of the best new books this year

There is a veritable smorgasbord ( fun word- right?) of highly anticipated books awaiting release over the next twelve months (and some a little bit after that). What with a very very famous author releasing what will has certainly been  a highly anticipated novel in the next TWO days, I compiled a list of some of the fiction (alot of which has been mentioned here) I can’t wait to arrive on my bookshelf.

No smoke and mirrors with Daughter of Smoke and Bone

There’s not much I like better than discovering a new author and falling head over heels in love with them. The scenario which often follows is me spending the next three months belligerently encouraging my friends to read their books. Unfortunately it doesn’t happen all that often. Don’t get me wrong, I read and enjoy new authors all the time- but there aren’t many that grab you by the throat and make you willing to sell your soul to write as well as they can. It happened for me three years ago with John Connolly’s The Gates, two years ago with Kelly Link’s Pretty Monsters and last year I fell for the wonderful Amy Bloom’s Where the God of Love Hangs Out (all of which are fabulous- go read them). After years of magnificent short stories, I was glad to find an exceptional novel to accompany them.
